Spencer Sky high after UKPC win

Alex Spencer, a 21-year-old from Doncaster, has won the the 2014 Sky Poker UK Poker Championship (UKPC) main event.

Spencer went into the televised nine-handed final table with over two million more chips than his nearest rival Danny Blair, who he eventually had to battle heads-up for the £125,000 first-place prize.

Going into the final stages of the tournament, which took place at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham from 19-23 February, Spencer held a massive 13.8 million chips to Blair’s 4.8 million but Blair managed to claw his way level and then in front until he lost with 10-10 versus AK to turn the tie back in Spencer’s favour.

The final hand came when Blair moved all-in for six big blinds with QQ and Spencer called with KD-3H. The 10S-KC-6C flop put Spencer in front and a nine on the turn kept him there but gave Blair a few outs to a straight. A six on the river was not one of those outs and Blair busted, leaving Spencer to be crowned 2014 Sky Poker UKPC champion, collecting a $15,000 tournament package in addition to the prize money after topping the UKPC leaderboard.
