Help for Heroes ambassador wins UKIPT title

It took 17 levels on the final day, but Help for Heroes ambassador Paul Findlay didn't mind after he emerged as champion of the UKIPT Series 6 event at London's Hippodrome Casino from 11-14 September.

From the 105 players who started the day it came down to Findlay and Mario Trattou heads-up, with Findlay picking up the trophy and £12,396 in prize money after entering the duel with a small chip deficit but setting a couple of effective traps for his opponent, the last seeing him limp with pocket aces and netting all Trattou's chips.

Chip leader at the start of the eight-seat final table was Trattou on 2,450,000, followed by Chiang Jen-yue on 1,040,000 and Damasco Garcia on 875,000. Next came Onur Dag on 835,000, Khashayar Zarghampour on 710,000, Findlay on 520,000, Darren Murphy with 365,000 and Steven Lewzey the short stack on 240,000.

Chiang entered the final table well-placed for a deep run, but he was the first of Findlay's victims running two big hands (ace-king and eights) into two even bigger hands (kings and tens) to crash out in eighth spot for £2,100.

Lewzey was the next to exit shoving with a suited ace, only for Findlay to find bullets. Murphy (with his stack decimated in the same aces hand) followed soon afterwards when Zarghampour built his stack with Murphy's remaining chips.

Dag busted out in fifth place, leaving the remaining players to hammer out a deal that saw the payout structure flattened somewhat.

Garcia was the next to leave after his two pair was rivered by a straight and Trattou took out Zarghambour to face a final battle with Findlay, who earmarked 10 per cent of his winnings for Help for Heroes, the charity that supported him after he lost a leg serving his country in Afghanistan.
