Angell delight at scooping UKIPT London title

Brett Angell topped a field of 1,089 runners at UKIPT London to net the biggest live score of his career, securing a bumper £115,083 payout after beating Switzerland's Fabrizio Fuchs heads-up.

With both players holding deep stacks at the start of heads-up play they agreed a chop that saw £10,000 left to play for with 31-year-old Angell pocketing the extra cash after a two-hour heads up battle.

The final hand saw all the chips go in with Fuchs well behind with A-9 against Angell's A-K, the board bringing no help for the Swiss player and leaving Angell to claim the title, the trophy and £115,083.

The man from Middlesbrough started the eight-handed final table out in front on 5.2m chips, with his closest rival being Nickolas Davies on 4m, with Italy's Sandro Mescola the short stack on 1.1m.

Denmark's Rasmus Agerskov was third in chips on 3.2m, with Russian Vladimir Troyanovskiy on 2.7m, Mark James on 2.3m, Caicai Huang with 2m and Fuchs on 1.2m.

It took a while for the action to warm up in the Grand Connaught Rooms with the first elimination arriving after about three hours' play when Agerskov departed in eighth, heralding a steady stream of exits.

Hoping to become UKIPT's first female winner, Huang followed Agerskov out of the tournament a hand later, with WPT Alpha8 finalist Troyanovskiy hitting the rail in sixth. The carnage continued with US pro Davies running his A-Q into Angell's A-K to leave in fifth place.

Britain's James then exited in fourth after missing a flush draw against Fuchs' top pair and 69-year-old Italian Mescola departed in third place falling to Angell's top pair after laddering up from being the short stack at the start of play.
