Corbin deals in Cardiff PokerPlayer success

Start-of-day chip leader David Corbin was crowned PokerPlayer Tour Cardiff champion after 10 players came back for Day 2 at the G Casino on 12 October.

The final 10 returned with only eight set to get paid but before any cards had been dealt a deal was done to see all players picking up some cash.

But it wasn't a simple deal, the payouts were adjusted for 10 rather than eight players, then the chip counts were factored in, and finally the extra amount to play on for was decided with £100 coming off the top two prizes and £50 from the other eight.

Having secured £1,300 before the cards hit the felt, Corbin scooped another £400 and the title after beating the short stack at the resumption of play, Martin Brooks, heads-up... with Brooks taking home £770 for second place.

Corbin started the day on 166,100, marginally ahead of Warren Jones on 160,200, with online qualifier Lee Brooks in third on 75,200, followed by Stephen Manning on 63,900, Mark Morris on 61,200 and Carl Lake on 36,400. Carl Watson started with 35,400, Robert Bulman 24,300, Andrew Davies 22,900 and the short stack was Brooks on 13,800.

And with the deal done, the event might have seemed like a foregone conclusion but with the title of PokerPlayer Tour Cardiff champion to play for it took another five hours to decide the outcome.

First to benefit from the deal was Morris, whose 10th-place finish saw him collect £220, then online qualifier Robert Bulman scooped £300 for ninth place.

Manning exited in eighth place for £620, with Lee Brooks departing in seventh for £680 and Jones in sixth, having already secured £1,250 by virtue of being second in chips at the start of play.

Those not to come out of the deal so well were Davies, who finished in fifth place bagging £290, Lake, who received £390 for fourth, and Watson, who took home £380 for third.
