Capital idea sees Gordon take down WPT

Christopher Gordon outlasted a field of 594 entrants at the WPT National London event at Aspers Casino in Stratford from 12-15 February to claim a first prize of £22,500.

Just 24 players were still in contention for glory at the start of play on Sunday but it didn't take long to reach the final table after a frantic opening. Among the early casualties was last year's WPT Nottingham winner Matas Cimbolas, who busted in 13th.

British players dominated the final table, but after the likes of Petrit Papushi, Kenny King, Darren Mapley and Laurence Essa had hit the rail only Spaniard Jesus Gracia stood between Gordon and glory.

Gordon started heads-up play with a four to one chip lead and it didn't take him long to secure his largest tournament score, coming from behind with K-9 to crack the short-stacked Gracia's pocket 10s.
