Tuna swims to Brighton to net 25/25

WPT National London champion Gabriel Tuna bagged another title at the weekend, taking down the 25/25 Brighton event at the Grosvenor Casino.

Tuna outlasted a field of 171 to take the biggest portion of the £34,200 prize pool in the £200+£20 tournament.

Tuna beat Nathan Burfoot heads-up to pocket £6,146 after going in with 9-5 against Burfoot's 6-5 after the players did a deal six-handed and played on for £1,117 and the title, £700 going to Tuna and £417 to Burfoot as they raced for the money.

Tuna and Burfoot were joined at the final table by Stephen Eames, Sean Williams, Leo Worthington-Leese, David Backler, Guy Steel, Andrew Cleverly and Gordon Strank.

At the start of the final day in Brighton, Burfoot returned as chip leader on 220k, with Williams in third place on 167k, Tuna on 151k, Worthington-Leese 96k, Steel 73k, Backler 65k, Eames 63k, Strank 45k and Cleverly 22k.

Strank went out in ninth place and was soon followed by Cleverly who had been crippled by Barfoot before he got all his remaining chips in with AS-4S against Worthington-Leese with QH-10H, which proved to be the perfect hand when the board ran out QC-3C-10D-10C-10S to first give Worthington-Leese top two pair, then a full-house and finally quads. Not much Cleverly could do about that.

Steel went out in seventh spot, shoving his last 309k on the button with KS-3S and being called by Tuna in the big blind with pocket eights.

Steel's exit heralded a six-way deal that saw Tuna guaranteed £5,446, Williams £4,999, Barfoot £4,322, Backler £4,008, Eames £3,905 and Worthington-Leese £3,223, with £1,117 and the title left to play for.

The deal should have speeded up play but actually had the opposite effect and it was a while before Backler hit the rail in fifth place, shoving with AD-JD against Williams with queens. Williams improved to trips on the 10S-4D-QD flop but had to dodge a king and a diamond on the turn and river to stay in the tournament, Backler missing it all to leave in sixth place.

Worthington-Leese departed in fifth after shoving over an opening raise from Williams with AD-10S. Tuna moved all-in over the top and Williams folded leaving two players to battle it out for the pot, Tuna holding pocket kings, which improved to trips on the turn and quads on the river.

And Williams joined Worthington-Leese on the rail just one hand later after moving all-in blind and being called by Burfoot with A-K and Eames with aces. The 7C-9H-QD-JC-2C board saw Eames double up through Burfoot and Williams leave in fourth place.

Eames was the last of the four to miss out on the remaining cash, shoving from the small blind with AS-KS and Tuna calling with AD-8D.

Although Eames was out in front and a big favourite to stay alive, the 2D-10D-8S flop saw Tuna jump ahead, with the 4D on the turn sealing Eames' fate.
