Allan has the key to Salford success

Stephen Allan was the sole survivor from a field of 168 entries, pocketing £8,920 after beating Jason Barton heads-up to win the Salford 25/25 from 3-5 October and also collecting a GUKPT seat from the last-man standing pot.

After the players had agreed a deal with £8,920 going to first place and £7,500 for second, with the GUKPT seat still on the line, the final hand saw Allan raise to 125k and Barton move all-in with A-9.

Allan, holding pocket eights, hit a set on the 8-K-10 flop and the queen on the turn and six on the river left Barton as the runner-up.

Barton had a more than 100k advantage when the players reached the final table with 797,500 chips to Allan's 669,000, Steve Beattie was in third place on 623,000, with Andrew Lambert next on 509,000 and Ali Khan with 487,000. Neil MacArthur took 420,000 to the table, with Angela Killion on 274,000, Olabode Ayegun on 228,500 and Barrie McAinsh the short stack with 173,500.

Killion was the first to hit the rail after shoving with pocket tens against Allan's A-K. The 5-J-6 flop left Killion out in front and the four on the turn meant she only had to dodge an ace or a king on the river to double up, but it wasn't to be and an ace on the river saw her exit in ninth place.

Neil McArthur was the next casualty after running his pocket tens into Khan's aces, with the K-5-7-9-2 board offering no assistance.

McAinsh exited in seventh place after raising to 50,500 from the button with pocket eights, with Allan re-popping to 125k in the small blind with nines. The K-Q-J-Q-10 board confirming McAinsh's demise.

Khan departed in sixth place, moving all-in for 250k with pocket fives after Beattie's raise to 45k
with A-9. Beatie called Khan's bet and when the flop brought A-9-J it looked bleak for Khan, with a four on the turn and jack on the river sending him out.

Ayegun, aka Buddy Love, was the man to leave in fifth place shoving from the big blind with Q-4 after a raise from Barton with A-6. Barton made the call and his ace held as the board ran out 5-7-7-2-5.

Beatie was next out shoving his two big blinds into the middle with pocket nines and being called by Allan in the big blind with Q-10. Beatie was happy with the A-K-5 flop, which left Allan looking at a mass of outs. The seven on the turn wasn't one of them, but the queen on the river was and Beattie left in fourth place.

Allan also accounted for Lambert, who shoved with K-6 and found himself dominating Allan who called with K-2, but a two on the flop meant it was Lambert to leave in third place.
