BMX bandit Batey back to winning ways

It's been a quiet few months for former professional BMX rider Liam Batey since he won the 8-Max event at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham for £8,250 in April, but he was back on top in the Sheffield leg of the 25/25 Series at the weekend, collecting £7,800 after a two-handed deal with Thomas Somerville.

Batey was the sole survivor from the 145 entries who produced a £29,000 prize pool... runner-up Somerville pocketing £6,560.

A total of 46 players returned to the G Casino for day two with Somerville leading the way on 205,700 chips, with Qumar Hussain second on 167,800, Martin Ward next on 154,300, Philip Walker with 148,200 and Batey on 138,300, with 15 players set to make the money.

Walker failed to make the last 15 but Batey, Somerville, Hussain and Ward did and were joined on the final table by Lee Harling, Samuel Mather and three Matthews... Howes, Nolan and Wood.

Harling was the first to exit for £730, followed by Ward who finished in eighth place for £810. Mather collected £960 for seventh and Hussain £1,210 for his sixth-place finish.

Next to leave were the three Matthews... Wood finished fifth for £1,690, Nolan fourth for £2,430 and Howes third for £3,630.

That left Batey and Somerville to reach a deal over the remaining prize pool, Somerville bagging £6,560 as the eventual runner-up and Batey £7,800 as 25/25 Series Sheffield champion.
