Plymouth’s Dorman takes the UKSPC title

Plymouth's Michael Dorman is the 2014 UK Student Poker Champion after taking down the £35 main event at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on 13 April 2014.

Dorman was chip leader with a 2,021,000 stack as 16 runners from a field of 544 returned to the G Casino on Sunday for the final day's play. Ryan Mandara a distant second on 1,140,000.

And those placings remained the same at the end of play with Dorman winning the heads-up battle with Mandara for a £1,000 GUKPT seat after the players had hatched a four-way deal for the prize money.

Mandara had the chip advantage going into their heads-up battle on 6,200,000 to Dorman's 4,600,000 but by the time they reached the final hand the chips had swung in the opposite direction as the players got them all in on a 7D-7C-3S board, Dorman tabling 3H-5D to Mandara's AD-4H.

The turn brought a 4S to put Mandara in front but the 5C on the river gave Dorman the better two pair and earned him a GUKPT seat to add to his £2,500.

Mantara saw the lion's share of the cash go his way as he took home £3,275 for second place, with Matthew Buckingham third for £2,235 and Alexander Marsdan fourth for £2,000.
