Wizard Wilshaw conjures up a boat

Leg one of the Midlands region's latest edition of the 25/25 Series saw a total of 164 entries at the G Casino, Hill Street, from 8-10 August 2014.

With a £200 + £20 buy-in that generated a prize pool of £62,600, with the lion's share going to winner Paul Wilshaw, who collected £5,690 after a few deals were done on the final table.

Mohammed Zapour, who played flight C, was the man in charge with a huge stack of 277,900 going into the final day, with 45 players returning to do combat.

Zapour led from June's Walsall winner Michael Corrigan (239,500), with his big pal Vaidas Sirionas, who won the Cardiff GUKPT, on 67,200 being one of the short stacks. But neither Zapour, Corrigan nor Sirionas made the money in Birmingham, where the top 17 got paid.

The final table was made up of new chip leader Mo Ghollamrezapour on 760,500, with Wilshaw on 683,500 and Lee Byrne 610,500. Karin Willis was next in line on 560,500, followed by David Lavelle on 470,500, Sehn Ung on 332,000, James Harcourt with 257,500 and Zac Goldsmith (253,000). At the rear of the field was short-stack Aydin Enver on 175,000.

After Enver exited in ninth for £790, James Harcourt followed in eighth for £910. At this stage the remaining players agreed to take home £3,000 each, with play continuing for the rest of the money; £2,000 extra going for second and £3,690 for first.

Goldsmith, Byrne and Ghollamraezpour were the next casualties before a further deal was done, with the remaining four guaranteed an extra £1,000 and £1,690 on top for the winner.

That turned out to be Wilshaw, after his limp in the small blind was checked by Lavelle.

A flop of 6D-JC-JD saw both players check, before the turn brought the 9C which again brought no further action.

The QS on the river prompted a 150k bet from Lavelle, which Wilshaw raised to 650k before Lavelle responded by moving all in with 10S-8H for a straight to the queen.

Wilshaw instantly called, his JH-6H giving him a full house and bagging him an extra £1,690 for first place.
