Gallaway gallops to Portsmouth success

After six hours of final-table action, the Portsmouth leg of the 25/25 Series from 22-24 August concluded with a heads-up deal between chip leader Ben Gallaway and Colin Good, with Gallaway taking the title, the trophy and £9,800.

Gallaway, ahead in the chip stakes by about 2.9m to 1.4m after eliminating Rob Udy to take the tournament into the heads-up stage, became 25/25 Portsmouth champion while Good claimed the runners-up cheque of £7,200.

Attracting a field of 174 entries to the G Casino at Gunwharf Quays, there was a prize pool of £34,800 for the 54 players returning for day two to do battle for, with 17 getting paid.

Leading the way at the start of play was Tyler Dexter with just under 200,000 in chips, followed closely by Callum Fowler just 6k behind him.

Fowler busted out in 16th place for £450, while Dexter had slipped to fifth in the chip parade when the final table was reached.

Gallaway was out in front with 927,500 chips, with Udy second on 776,500 and Luke Diaper third with 475,500. They were followed by Min Ji on 465,000, Dexter on 445,000, GUKPT Cardiff winner Vaidas Siriunas on 408,000, Good with 336,000, Steven Vigor on 306,000 and short-stack Jane Wheeler on 174,000.

Udy was the man to go out in third place after being put all-in by Gallaway with AH-4D from the small blind. Udy called with QS-5C and with a K-10-10-J-K board Gallaway's ace was good enough to see off Udy.

Gallaway also accounted for Diaper, who moved all-in from the small blind holding pocket queens only to find Gallaway with rockets. The 5-4-10-5-J board confirming Diaper's demise.

Siriunas also fell at the hands of Gallaway after three-betting to 175k from the big blind with AS-10S after Gallaway's opening bet of 80k with AH-KH. With Siriunas vowing to call if Gallaway put him all-in he did just that when Ben moved all his chips into the middle.

Gallaway hit the K-9-J flop, plus the ace on the river with Siriunas needing a queen on the river to save his tournament life. The six on the river was no help at all and the Bournemouth 25/25 winner went out in fifth place.

Ji exited in sixth place after the action folded to Diaper on the button and he moved all-in for 225k with KD-8S. Ji, holding AD-JH, wasted no time in calling.

The 4C-QS-7S flop was kind to Ji but the 4S on the turn was not as it gave Diaper a flush draw. As it turned out he didn't need it as a king on the river was enough to eliminate Ji.

Vigor went out in seventh place after he moved all-in from early position with pocket tens and was looked up by Siriunas with jacks. The 9S-6D-2H flop, four on the turn and six on the river brought no help for Vigor and he headed home.

Wheeler was another of Gallaway's victims after he made it 25k to go and Vigor three-bet to 55k. Wheeler moved all-in for 135k from the big blind and Vigor folded after Gallaway's shove all-in. Gallaway's pocket tens had Wheeler's QC-10C well beaten but the KH-AD-4C flop and 2C on the turn gave her a flush draw, which she missed with the 2D on the river.

Dexter was the first casualty on the final table after making it 30k to go from middle position. Gallaway three-bet to 75k from the button with 10H-9H and Dexter called with AS-QS.

The 10C-6S-4S saw Dexter shove all-in for 290k and Gallaway tank for a few minutes before deciding to call. A six on the turn and two on the river, neither of them spades, meant Gallaway's tens held and Dexter left in ninth position
