It’s an Autumn Classic for Williams

It was an Autumn Classic for Sean Williams at London's Hippodrome Casino from 21-23 November as he collected £12,503 after beating Kelly Saxby heads-up for the title.

The final hand saw Saxby move all-in with pocket sevens and Williams call with A-9. The J-6-6 flop was good for Saxby but the ace on the turn put Williams in sight of the winning post and with no river rescue for Saxby, she exited as runner-up for £9,600.

A total of 78 players took their seats at the Hippodrome on day two to battle it out for a slice of the £60,383 prizepool. Start-of-day chip leader was Edward Lin on 277,700, with Chris Gordon second on 238,800, Xie Hadqi third on 182,700 and Craig Sweden fourth on 174,400.

Saxby had returned on 173,300 in fifth, with Steve O'Keefe sixth on 173,200 and Daniel James in seventh place on 171,300.

But by the time the tournament was down to a final nine, of those only Saxby, Sweden and James remained. Williams was now out in front on 1.1m, with Chris Horton on 1m, Jon Wong third with 871,000 and James fourth on 850,000.

Saxby was next on 620,000, followed by Adrian Memed with 498,000, Sweden on 395,000, Rupom Pal with 370,000 and Lois Dufouleur the short stack on 294,000.

But that fact didn't prevent Dufouleur from running deep and he was unlucky to go out in third place when he pushed all-in with A-J and was called by Williams with A-10.

The 7-8-7 flop kept him in front but again the turn proved decisive for Williams who hit a 10 to move ahead and he managed to fade a jack and a nine on the river to knock Dufouleur out in third place for £5,250.

Wong was the man to go out in fourth place for £4,200 after he shoved from the button with kings into Williams' big blind. Williams decided to call with A-4 and the 9-A-9 flop left Wong looking to the heavens with an eight on the turn and six on the river confirming his demise.

James exited in fifth position for £3,600 when his flush draw didn't get there against Dufouleur and Memed was the man to leave in sixth place for £3,150, shoving the remainder of his stack with AD-7C.

Williams was priced in to make the call with KH-5D and although the AS-QS-9S flop saw Memed still ahead with no spades in either hand, Williams needed runner runner to take the pot. The 10S on the turn kept him alive and the JD on the river completed his straight.

Horton finished in seventh position for £2,750, also taken out by Williams, with Sweden exiting in eighth place after he moved all-in with pocket sevens after a raise from James, who called with a QS-JS and a big sigh.

The 6H-2S-8H flop looked good for Sweden but the QC on the turn left him with few outs and the 9D on the river sent him to the rail £2,480 better off.

Pal was the first to depart the final table, lasting only four hands when committing his stack with A-Q against James' A-10. A queen on the turn put him further ahead but gave James flush possibilities, which materialised on the river to see Pal exit in ninth place for £2,120.
