Etherington deals his way to Huddersfield title

Dave Etherington took the trophy in the 25/25 Series event at the Grosvenor Casino in Huddersfield from 12-14 December after a three-way chop that saw Matt Wood take the biggest slice of the prize pool.

Wood pocketed £7,100, with Etherington and Rob Knights taking £4,350 each. The players then played on for the trophy, Etherington coming out on top to claim the crown.

A total of 124 entries in Huddersfield meant the event failed to meet the guarantee by the smallest of margins... £200... so there was a £25,000 prize pool for the 32 players who returned for Day 2 on Sunday to battle over.

When play resumed Wood was third in chips on 189,600, with Kevin Asquith the chip leader on 261,700 and James Gilbert second on 196,800.
Neither Asquith nor Gilbert made the nine-handed final table, although Gilbert did cash in 11th place for £520.

The final table was comprised of chip leader Clare Gorse on 540,000, with Michael Sharkey second on 500,000 and Wood still third on 391,000.
Jessica Doyle (350,000) was in fourth place, with James Gardner fifth on 290,000 and Etherington next on 280,000. Martin Dawson (230,000), Gary Whitehead (225,000) and short stack Knights (160,000) completed the line-up.

Dawson was the first of the nine to exit the final table, followed by Sharkey, Doyle, Gorse and Whitehead.
Gardner busted out in fourth place for £2,200, leaving the remaining three players to split the remaining prize pool with Etherington beating Wood heads-up for the title.
